4 CAMPAIGNS CREATED IN TRIBUTE TO WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY

November 20th is Universal Children's Day, since 1954, but it is also the Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Children's Rights, which occurred in 1959. This day serves to raise awareness among the population around the world about how children are the most vulnerable group, above all, in crisis situations and problems.

World Children's Day is a great opportunity to raise awareness in schools and in society in general. It is important to know that childhood is an unrepeatable and crucial stage of life and that all children must be protected, safe, and provided with health and education, regardless of where they are born.

For this reason, some large brands wanted to honor this important day through the creation of advertising campaigns, which managed to impact the viewer through an emotional message. These companies have managed to focus their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in an optimal way, achieving that their activity generates on their clients and society, in general, a vision on the subject that they probably did not consider before.

Although hundreds of campaigns are created around this day worldwide every year, this article has focused more on those that teach us the true reality of the world in which children live in. The article provides an insight into topics such as poverty, war, and terror. In total, 4 of the best-known campaigns have been chosen so that the reader understands better what this important day is all about.

SAVE THE CHILDREN

The spot for the NGO Save the Children shows aspects of the daily life of a girl in London; playing with her friends and enjoying a family birthday. But things change in the middle of the spot with the outbreak of a war.  What the images show is fear, lack of food and medicine, people fleeing from their countries, reflecting what children of their age have to endure while living in Syria.

The civil war in Syria has claimed the lives of more than 100,000 children and more than 2.3 million have had to flee their homes.

The goal of this powerful campaign is to raise awareness about the refugee crisis that affects thousands of children. A great campaign that makes us reflect on the ability we have to continue with our lives regardless of what may be happening in other parts of the planet. This idea is expressed at the end thought the sentence: "Just because it isn´t happening here, it doesn´t mean it isn´t happening."

BENNETON UNHATE FOUNDATION

This brand made a total of seven posters with the aim of showing the main problems that threaten the dignity and integrity of children in the world. Among them are pedophilia, sex tourism, the Syrian Civil War, the free arms trade, trafficking in human organs, obesity, and nuclear pollution.

These posters show each of these threats embodied in a human figure with arms placed in a cross and with the child placed on his back as a crucifixion. The company points out that the choice of the cross is intended to show the pain endured by the victims, as well as the factors that threaten the rights of children.

UNICEF- YOU ARE NO MORE THAN A CHILD

As expected, UNICEF also wanted to be part of this special day and for this reason, it published a video entitled "You are not more than a child", in which it is proven that a child can become much more than what we imagine.

The video shows the story of the children and young activists who managed to change the world and generate an impact internationally thanks to their initiative and activism. Phrases such as you will understand when you are older” and “you are just a child” are mentioned. Characters such as Greta Thunberg (a young activist who has achieved a global movement against climate change) and Malala Yousafzai (a Pakistani student, activist, and blogger, winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize) appear.

The message this campaign wants to convey is that children are increasingly claiming their rights and taking more and more actions to have a better future. That is why we should stop saying that they are only children and start listening to them and supporting them more.

UNICEF- SWEET TRICK

UNICEF also carried out a campaign as a social experiment in order to show us that these situations occur on a daily basis, and we are not aware of it. In this case, they want to make parents aware about hay they should be more careful with their children, since, as previously mentioned, they are one of the most vulnerable groups and need more protection than the rest.

The experiment in question is about a person who disguises himself as edible cotton candy. The children, without hesitation, go to him to get the candy running. What the video means to us by this is that "it is that easy for a pedophile to attract a child" and that "we are vigilant." It is a great example of the harsh reality that exists in places full of children, such as parks or schools, and therefore we must all do our part to prevent child sexual abuse.

As has been observed, these campaigns show very harsh images, but they are chosen to impact the mind of each one of us. In light of this information, we could say that there are many reasons to celebrate the Children´s day by raising awareness of child well-being, welfare and rights, as well as showing appreciation for our children, the future of society.

As we have read on the article children lives are very important. Studies show that when a child is about 7 months old, they start to develop the understanding part of their brain, they answer to their name and can recognize things, when they turn 3 years or so, their brains are much more developed and they can understand more complex things and even interact with it. That is why this phase of their lives is important and the child needs to be taken care of so that he can develop all his capacities with no barriers. Many companies, mostly charities, use World Children's Day as a great opportunity to raise awareness in society about this actual problem. The message they try to communicate is how important childhood is and that the growing phase is crucial to their correct development in the future. All children must be fed, safe and provided both with a¡education and health, regardless where they come from.

In marketing, it is very important to attract the attention of consumers. This may seem an absurd entry, because why are you going to advertise about children if they are not the ones who buy or consume. But it is true that this type of business serves several purposes. The first one is to clean up the image of the companies by dealing with this type of issues, they raise consumer awareness and are very well seen. On the other hand, with this type of theme it is much easier to reach the consumer's heartstrings, and as we all know, emotions are very important when it comes to marketing.

This fourth campaigns are in my opinion very good, as the others commentaries, they attract the attention of the costumers. This adverts uses the emotional publicity to do it and connect with the people.

I really like the third one “you are not more than a child”, how kids demonstrates how responsible they are and how matures, sometimes much more than their parents.

I hate when someone says to a child “you will understand when you are older” or “you are just a kid”. People should try to explain to the kids everything they want to know in an objective way so they can learn and understand what is going on.

I really enjoy your article. It seems curious why children are so common in a lot of different campaigns among all commercial sectors. It´s obviously that companies know the power they have. Making spots and campaigns where children had the leading role is so emotional for all the public in general. I think that’s why most of the campaigns star in by children are from NGOs. Also, I think that is so important to use the World Children´s Day for making campaigns related with situations that affect children all around the world, not only for raising brand awareness or have a better brand image.

I find this article very interesting as children are the most vulnerable people in this world. A person's childhood determines what he or she will be like as an adult and there are certain things, mentioned in this article, that no human being, let alone a child, can be allowed to experience in his or her lifetime. I would like to highlight the Benetton campaign. This company always creates very controversial campaigns and this time it could not be different. I think it is a very good campaign as it is very visual with children in arms in crosses surrounded by the different problems they suffer from, for example, wars or paedophilia.

I totally agree with this post about the world children’s day. Unfortunately, there are a lot of children that doesn’t have a normal life, or the luck of meet their basic necessities, as for example going to the school to have an education.

I think it is so important to do special campaigns about this day because it is underrated and it is so important to the humanity to influence them and advert about how are some child’s life.

This also make a helping and solidarity image to those brands which make different campaigns about this day. And it should be without profit spirit.

In this article, which is very interesting as well as important, it deals with World Children's Day, claiming that children are the most vulnerable in times of crisis and problems, which is why they established November 20 as World Children's Day. , and that today numerous companies have taken advantage and carried out campaigns on this day, such as "Save the children" as a pioneer accompanied by Unicef and followed by important brands such as Benneton among the most prominent.

Every year many companies carry out campaigns telling the reality of some children and their situation in some cases more unfavorable than others.

This seems to me to be a great article that perfectly addresses the theme of this emblematic day. The first ad is the only one I have seen and it seems to me the best of all. The war in Syria is an issue that few media platforms talk about, and therefore such shocking and reality-filled campaigns help to give them more visibility. Children, as the article mentions, are very vulnerable people and this is reflected very explicitly in the other advertisements. In my opinion, we should all fight for a better society without so much poverty, abuse, crime, violence etc.

Four very good campaigns that through emotional advertising manage to connect with the viewer to get him/her involved in the specific problem that each spot presents and that affects children.
If I had to choose only one of these four, I think I would choose the one from unicef because it is the one that has caught my attention, showing the power of children and their imagination.
