ZARA AND ITS NEW COMMITMENT TO SECOND-HAND SALES

 

I think we all know the clothing firm Zara, belonging to the Inditex group, is a very

broad firm and is present in many outlets both physical and online.

Its latest bet is the sale of second-hand clothes, they have the challenge of extending

the life of Zara’s garments, basically as the Vinted application (application used for

buying and selling clothes of any brand, firm or type of clothing, without having a

specific firm) what Zara wants now is to give customers the ability to sell clothes that

no longer use but is in good condition and thus be able to get extra money, or also to

be able to buy clothes from Zara at a better price and perhaps to acquire products that

you understand are at a higher price and thus at a more affordable price, or even to

get iconic garments from other seasons that you could not buy at the time and now

you have the possibility of acquiring it and even at a better price than it was at the

time.

 

HOW WILL THEY MANAGE TO DO THIS?

Through a Garment Repair tool, the repair service that Zara has, customers will have

the possibility to extend the life cycle of their garments.

To make this possible, Zara has a very wide network of workshops that will be able to

work to. Find the best solution for the damaged garment, improve it and thus be able

to sell it and give it a second chance again.

 

WHAT OPTIONS DOES THE CUSTOMER HAVE?

The customer has two possible options; the first option is to take the garments to the

nearest Zara store or take advantage of the online service they offer, in the case of

choosing the latter step (the online service), the customer would have to request three

simple steps, request a repair: select the service that is required; second step send the

garments: leave them at the nearest delivery point and the Zara brand itself is

responsible for taking them to the repair shop and the last simple step: once the Zara

team has finished resending the garments to the customer’s home.

In these garment repair shops give all possible possibilities for the repair of garments

from the adjustment of garments, replacement of buttons or zippers, length

adjustments, closing of small tears or seams and even the pilling to remove those little

balls of sweaters and jackets that appear over time and give a feeling of old and too

used sweaters. That if these services have some costs, not very high from 3 euros to 15

euros, you have to consider whether it is worth it or not to fix it if it is worth fixing it

through the workshops of Zara or from outside etc., all to improve the garment, give it

a second chance at the same time to get extra money.

 

HOW TO SELL THE GARMENTS?

In order to sell second-hand clothes, shoes, or accessories you have to follow four

simple steps: the first step is to “log in” that is to log in the platform created

specifically for this purpose “Zara Resell Platform” the next step is to “submit” that is

to say, to search for the item that you want to sell. The third step is “list” add a brief

description of the product explaining its characteristics, upload photos in which you

delivery is used, and it is shipped within three days.

CLOTHING DONATIONS

In addition to this good deed that Zara does by giving clothes a second chance, the

donation of used clothes goes to benefit non-profit associations.

All the clothes that people do not buy or do not want are given to local organizations

that classify the clothes according to their condition and quality, if they can be reused

if they cannot be reused, if they are torn, damaged or with holes and also the quality,

if the quality has been maintained, lost, etc.

These garments will be donated to people at risk of social exclusion, or people who

need help and clothes and have no way to pay for them, they will also be sold to

second hand stores or will be recycled to create new clothes and help the environment.

The NGOs that will benefit from this new clothing platform are “The Red Cross”,

Caritas, “China Environmental Protection Foundation”, “Le relais”, “The Salvation

Army”, among other associations.

 

Zara speaks of this initiative as part of its social and environmental commitment, this

project seeks to promote the recovery of used clothing to prolong the life of the

garment.

 

To say, that this new initiative has just started in the market, just released in Uk as a

test to see how the public receives it and how consumers behave, once they see that

this platform works (which it will) will gradually expand to reach everywhere and thus

set an example to more brands so that all large companies have the opportunity to do

this and help both the planet and people in need.

In conclusion, the truth is that Zara has had a very good idea, it is a way to encourage

the sale of second-hand products, take advantage and give them a second chance,

people can buy clothes at a better price if they consider that the price in store is

excessive or very high, also help people who need it and donate everything they do

not need to NGOs and thus be able to help others who needs help, without forgetting

that by doing this what they do is to reduce the environmental impact of the textile

industry, promote textile innovation in recycled garments and thus to set an example

to other major brands, which have so much presence and image in the market (HyM is

already taking an example of this initiative of Zara).
